About Kcea
KCEA 89.1 FM is a broadcast service of the Sequoia Union High School District.
Established in 1979, KCEA-FM’s humble beginnings on the campus of Menlo-Atherton High School were as KMAH, and featured a local music and high school campus related programming. During the hours when the station was not staffed by students, it played the sounds of the Pacific Ocean recorded at Fort Point near the Golden Gate Bridge. In 1983 the call letters were changed to KCEA (“K-SEA”) in homage to the station’s early programming, and an Adult Standards/Big Band format was adopted to help attract a bigger audience that would draw listener financial support and defray the costs of operation.
Over the last 37 years, KCEA has become a respected and much appreciated source of Big Band and Adult Standards music and has a following across the globe via its 24/7 live stream. KCEA is also the “voice” of the Sequoia Union High School District, offering a platform for the District’s educational initiatives and an opportunity for student engagement in communications. KCEA provides live coverage of high school sporting events from the District’s four campuses, in addition to a weekly sports talk show “Inside the PAL”.
In addition to our programming that showcases the students of the Sequoia Union High School District, KCEA seeks to make music and the arts a more important part of more people’s lives by presenting high quality music programming, and by producing and presenting programming featuring the arts and culture of the San Francisco Bay Area.
